Research Area
- Use novel processing techniques to develop high-performance nanocomposite magnets.
- Develop advanced nanostructural materials for civilian and defense application, such as information storage, space operations, navigation, and telecommunication technology etc.
- Search for less expensive magnets with superior properties for use in compact energy conversion devices.
- Search for new rare-earth-transition-metal-based compounds with large anisotropy, high magnetization, large energy product and Curie temperature which can be used for permanent magnet development.
- Improve the mechanical and magnetic properties of nanocomposites by modifying the intergranular microstructure through intergranular additives which would lead to high-temperature applications of these magnets, as well as improved alignment of the axes of the hard grains to exploit the full magnetic potential of the nanocomposite system.
